HOW TO CLEAN YOUR BOAT'S INTERIOR
Keeping your boat’s interior spick and span is a top
priority when entertaining all summer long. A clean boat is also a great way to
increase its longevity and crucial to learn for any serious boat owner.
At LSK Lebanon, we
know more than anyone how important it is to upkeep your motor vehicles. Coming
shortly after your boat purchase near
mid-Missouri with us, you will need to begin your upkeep of your boat. Not
only does cleaning your boat regularly increase your boat’s lifespan, but also,
it helps with your boat’s overall functionality.
In the future, we will discuss how to clean the exterior of
your boat, as well as, cleaning other crucial items, such as, the engine or the
teak.
The following compartments of the boat will be discussed
below in this blog:
- Marine Carpet
- Non-slip fiberglass
- Vinyl
- Cushions
- Heads
MARINE CARPET
Marine carpet is common in most boat in several compartments
and is usually spanned across the entire inside of the boat.
Best practice of cleaning any carpet, first is to vacuum.
Marine carpet isn’t any different. Then, immediately following, get a stiff
brush and scrub it down with soap and water. Your boat is most likely going to
be small enough to park up at an incline to let the water drain out. Otherwise,
you will need to get a wet-vac. Then continue drying via the AC or fans.
NON-SLIP FIBERGLASS
Your non-slip fiberglass is found inside and outside of your
boat, however we will strictly discuss cleaning the fiberglass found inside
your boat.
Remember: it is NOT to be dealt with like most fiberglass.
Just like your marine carpet, you will take the same brush and scrub it with
soap and water. In terms of stains, you can use bleach, however, it must be
used sparingly since it is so harsh on fiberglass. Following the scrub, you
will want to treat it with non-skid treatment like Woody Wax or Non-Skid Deck
Wax. These will help to protect thee fiberglass without making it slippery.
VINYL
Most commonly found these days with marine vinyl it’s
already treated with anti-microbial via the manufacturer. Anti-microbials fight
mold and mildew, so you want to preserve it. That means when cleaning the
vinyl, you will want to steer clear of super harsh chemicals.
To clean, use a clean rag with soap and water every use.
However, if you come across stains on your vinyl, there are marine vinyl
cleaners designated specifically for tough stains.
CUSHIONS
Since the cushions in your boat sit out in the sun all day
and deal with weather and water, they become less pristine very quickly. Most
covers are removable so you will want to remove them and wash them with COLD
water. Avoid putting them in the dryer afterwards for shrinkage.
HEADS
The boat heads are commonly compared to your toilet at home;
however, you will clean them a little differently. The solution is simple.
Wherever you see calcium deposits or build-up collected, take cups of white
vinegar, and run them through the lines. This only needs to be 1-2 times a
month.
We hope you feel renewed with your new and clean interior.
Here at LSK we wish you happy and
clean boating!
