Here Comes the 31st Annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout
One of the most anticipated annual boating events at the Lake of the Ozarks is happening on August 24 & 25, 2019 - the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout! These timed boat races are not only a weekend full of excitement but so much more. All kinds of fun events take place during the days leading up to the races. LSK Lebanon has the details for you in today's blog so you don't miss a minute of the action.
What is the LOZ Shootout?
For those of you that haven't done a lot of boating at the Lake of the Ozarks, you might not be completely familiar with this event. Here's a quick rundown of what it involves.
The LOZ Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the U.S. and has been named by Powerboat Magazine as one of the nation's 8 "must-see" boating events. Captain Ron's Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach (MM 34.5) is the home base but spectators line the "racetrack" on the water in boats to catch all the action. Watercraft of all shapes and sizes race the clock to claim the top speed in their division and the coveted title of "Top Gun."
Fun For A Great Cause
This incredible boating event began as the Lake Rescue Shootout in 1988. Local boaters got together to find out who had the fastest boat. Proceeds that were raised benefitted the water rescue efforts of a few Lake Area Fire Departments.
Flash forward to 2018 where the event raised $300,000 that benefitted 32 different charities plus 8 fire departments! This year will likely bring in more people and raise more money than ever before.
2019 Shootout Schedule
This event just keeps getting bigger and bigger and over time, additional events began popping up throughout the year and in the days leading up to race weekend. These include poker runs, a mini-shootout with remote-controlled boats, and a meet and greet with the boating teams with a chance to see the boats out of the water and up close.
Here is a list of what is happening this year. For additional details, visit www.LakeoftheOzarksShootout.com.
Our boat dealership in Southern Missouri hopes that you boat safely every time you are out on the water. During special events and on holidays when there are more boats out than usual, extra precautions should always be taken.
