Motorcycle Road Trip Tips

National Motorcycle Day happens next month in July, but World Motorcycle Day takes place on June 21, 2019. That same date also happens to be Take a Road Trip Day, so your friends at LSK Lebanon are filling this blog with helpful tips for taking a road trip on your motorcycle.

Motorcycle Road Trip Tips
Our motorcycle dealership in Southern Missouri has the gorgeous machines, accessories, and gear to get you out on a scenic road trip by bike. The following tips will help to make that trip safer, easier, and more enjoyable.

Plan Your Route
Know where you're headed before you begin the trip. Be aware of where gas stations are for fillups and know how far you can enjoyably ride before needing to stop for the day. Always have a map with you in case cell service is spotty and you cannot access your GPS.

Plan for plenty of stops along the way to both rest for a bit and to actually enjoy some of that countryside you are traveling through. Do your best to avoid peak traffic times in city areas and try to plan a route that doesn't have you riding into the sun when it will be directly in your eyes. It's also a good idea to plan meals at odd times to avoid big crowds and long waits.

Pack Smart
You'll want to have proper clothing for any type of weather you might encounter that is light enough to pack away when not needed. Rolling items instead of folding them is a good way to save space. LSK Lebanon has many motorcycle accessories in Southwest Missouri so you can get everything you need to take along packed away nicely for a smooth ride.

Buy inexpensive items you will need for the trip along the way so you don't have to pack them. Trash compactor bags are thicker and more durable than regular trash bags and work well for keeping items dry that will be packed into your saddlebags.

Plan For Emergencies
You'll want to pack things that will come in handy in case of any emergencies, both for you and for your motorcycle. Hide a spare key someplace just in case or trade spare keys with a riding partner. Be sure to have a small first aid kit for yourself and the things you might need to fix possible problems with your bike along the way. These include tools, flashlight, jumper cables, a portable battery charger, etc...

Always know exactly where you are on the road as well. Be aware of mile markers, exit signs, and other things that can help someone find you in case you need to call for help.

Stay Hydrated
Keep plenty of water on hand so you can stay hydrated, especially on extremely hot summer days. A backpack hydration system is a light and easy way to grab a drink whenever you need one without even having to stop on the side of the road.

Perform Daily Inspections
If you are going on a multiple-day road trip, be sure to do a quick inspection on your vehicle each day before heading out. Check all of the simple stuff that could cause big problems, such as air pressure, oil levels, etc... If you're planning to go an extremely long distance, you might consider bringing your motorcycle into the service center at LSK Lebanon for a checkup to make sure it's ready for the long ride.

After the Trip
Once you get back home, take note of non-emergency items that were not needed. You may be able to skip packing those things on your next trip, lightening the load. (Or possibly leaving more room for souvenirs!)
