Tips to Get Your Boat Ready for the Water This Season
Boating season is upon us and unless you're buying a new watercraft from our boat dealership in Southwest Missouri, you'll be needing to get your boat out of storage and in shape for a season full of fun on the water. LSK Lebanon has a few helpful tips for things you want to be sure to check before taking your boat out for that first cruise of the season.
Check the Battery
Your battery should have been stored in a safe, dry place over the winter. If it was put away in good condition, it should work just fine. Still, it's a good idea to double-check before heading out on the water.
Check the Fluids
Hopefully, you took care to put your boat away last winter with its fluids in good condition, including adding a fuel stabilizer. Before your first outing, make sure all of your fluid levels (oil, gas, coolant, etc...) are where they should be. If you are worried about anything leaking, be sure to have a professional take a look.
Check the Bilge Pump
Rain and melted snow could have seeped into your bilge pump over the winter and you will want to get that pumped out before going for a ride. Make sure to check that the bilge circuit, pump, and automatic switch are working correctly. If not, this could drain the boat's battery.
Check the Safety Gear
Double-check that all of the navigation lights are working properly, as well as the boat's horn. Make sure the dates on flares and fire extinguishers have not expired and they are in working condition. Have a fully stocked first aid kit on board, and you will need to have enough life jackets in the right sizes for everyone that will be riding on the boat.
Check the Trailer
The trailer that you get your boat from its storage place to the water needs to be in working condition too. Look over the tires, wheel bearings, sliding banks, and lights to be sure it's all ready to transport your boat safely.
Check the Registrations
Laws vary by state on the specifics, but check that all necessary registrations are up-to-date and current stickers are applied. This goes for the boat, the trailer, and the outboard motor.
Get the Boat Serviced
It's wise to have a professional look over everything to make sure the boat is safe to take out on the water all season long. Our boat dealership in Lebanon, MO, services all marine models and you can request service online through our website or give us a call at (800) 542-3846. We offer both pick-up and delivery, plus also perform on-site repairs.
Shine It Up
Your boat has been sitting all winter long waiting for warm weather to return. Even if it's been under a cover, it could probably use a good cleaning to look its best for a spring debut. When doing this yourself, be sure to use cleaners made specifically for boats when you wash, wax, and detail it. Some automobile cleaners are not made to work on vinyl and canvassing on boats and may do more harm than good.
Making sure that everything on your boat is working properly before getting it into the water is the best way to keep yourself and your passengers safe and ensure that your watercraft is ready for a season of use. LSK Lebanon is here to help you keep your boat in perfect working condition and when you're ready for an upgrade, we can take care of that for you too.
